Dear Form 3 Parents,
As the Head of Year for the Form Threes, I would like to welcome you and your daughter to the first chapter of their IGCSE journey. It has been a busy start to the term but it is great to note that most of the girls have settled well into their new schedules and are happy with their choice of subjects.
To begin with, a few pieces of ‘housekeeping’:
  • Please remind your daughters to make sure that all their belongings are clearly marked with their names so that when things are misplaced, it is easy to return them to their owner.

  • Girls must bring locks for their lockers and ensure that they use these lockers for the safe keeping of their belongings.

  • Girls are reminded that registration is at 7.25am and they must ensure that they arrive at school on time for this important part of the day.

  • Should a girl arrive after 7.25am, she must go straight to the Front Office to get a Late Slip which she needs to present to her subject teacher in the very next lesson.

  • Afternoon school is compulsory so please do not make any appointments for your daughters at this time.
Remind your daughters that should they need to leave school at any time between 7.25am and 3.00pm (1.05pm on a day that they don’t have afternoon school), they must get a gate pass from the front office which they must present to the guard at the gate. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary consequences.

  • It is important for your girls to check the sports and clubs schedules to ensure that they are fully embracing every aspect of school life and they are fulfilling the prerequisites of the school on this front. When leaving the school grounds, they must be in full school uniform or in the full school tracksuit.

  • Hair needs to be its original colour and be presented neatly and able to fit under the school hat.

  • Girls may only wear plain studs or sleepers in their ears and the piercing must be in the centre of the lobe itself. Any other piercings are not acceptable at school, including piercings on the upper region of the ear.
Now that the serious bit has been taken care of, I would like to advise you that should you have any concerns about your daughter’s school life, please do not hesitate to pop in and see me. I am usually available at 7am for a quick chat if need be, or you can make an appointment to see me through the Front Office. In addition, I am available at Coffee in The Car Park which takes place on a Wednesday from 7.00 – 7.30am.

This will be a busy year for your daughters where they are getting to grips with the various IGCSE syllabi. It is important to remember that this is a two year course and your daughters are still adjusting to the demands of their subjects at this level. Work will be marked along the guidelines set by Cambridge and as such they might not be what you have been accustomed to in the past. It is better to look at whether or not your daughter is making progress in her subjects and that she is learning from mistakes. In the famous words of Winston Churchill, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.” Let us equip our girls with the courage to continue and encourage them to achieve their best at every stage but let us not forget that they are still 14 / 15 year old girls, battling with the challenges of not only their academics, but their hormones, their social lives and even their very own self esteem.

Welcome to the world of your 15 year old! Let us support each other to ensure that they grow and become the best versions of themselves.

Yours faithfully
Mrs Heena Padayachee
